Discovering Noori Chicken Ann Arbor: A Culinary Gem on University Avenue
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Ann Arbor, Michigan, near the bustling energy of the University of Michigan campus, Noori Chicken Ann Arbor stands as a beacon of authentic Korean fried chicken. Located conveniently at 1317 S University Ave, this establishment has quickly carved out a reputation for delivering an unparalleled culinary experience centered around perfectly executed, craveable chicken. It’s more than just a fast-casual spot; it’s a destination where tradition meets modern flavor profiles, offering a comforting yet exciting taste of Korean street food culture right here in the Midwest.
The appeal of Noori Chicken lies in its dedication to quality and technique. Korean fried chicken, or "chikin," is an art form, characterized by its incredibly thin, shatteringly crisp crust achieved through a double-frying process. This meticulous approach ensures that the chicken remains light and non-greasy, allowing the complex marinades and glazes to truly shine. Whether you are a long-time enthusiast of Korean cuisine or someone simply searching for the best fried chicken experience available in Ann Arbor, Noori offers a compelling menu that caters to diverse palates while staying true to its roots.
The atmosphere at the University Avenue location is designed to be welcoming and energetic, reflecting the dynamic neighborhood it inhabits. It serves as an ideal gathering spot for students, local residents, and visitors alike, providing a casual setting perfect for a quick lunch, a satisfying dinner, or late-night cravings. The focus remains squarely on the food—flavorful, satisfying, and consistently prepared.
What sets Noori Chicken Ann Arbor apart in the competitive local food scene? Several key elements contribute to its growing popularity and loyal customer base:
Authentic Double-Frying Technique: The cornerstone of Noori’s success is its unwavering commitment to the traditional Korean method of frying chicken twice. This process is crucial for achieving the signature ultra-crispy exterior that locks in the juices, resulting in chicken that stays crunchy even when coated in sauce. This textural contrast is what elevates their offering above standard fried chicken preparations.
Diverse and Flavorful Sauces: While the plain fried chicken is exceptional, Noori truly showcases its versatility through its array of signature sauces. Patrons can explore everything from the sweet and spicy kick of the Yangnyeom style to savory, garlic-infused options. This variety allows diners to customize their experience, making every visit a new exploration of flavor combinations.
Prime Location for Accessibility: Situated on South University Avenue, the restaurant benefits from high foot traffic and proximity to major campus landmarks. This strategic positioning makes it incredibly convenient for the student body and faculty seeking high-quality, accessible dining options without venturing far from their daily routines.
Commitment to Freshness: The kitchen prioritizes using fresh ingredients in both the batter and the accompanying side dishes. This dedication to quality inputs ensures that the final product—from the tender meat inside to the vibrant sauces outside—meets a high standard of culinary excellence that patrons have come to expect.
Noori Chicken Ann Arbor is more than just a purveyor of delicious poultry; it represents a vital piece of the evolving culinary landscape of Ann Arbor. It successfully bridges the gap between authentic Korean street food traditions and the expectations of a modern, discerning American audience. The experience is inherently social, encouraging sharing and lively conversation over plates piled high with perfectly seasoned chicken.
For those seeking an elevated take on comfort food, where crispness, flavor depth, and quality ingredients are paramount, a visit to 1317 S University Ave is highly recommended. Noori Chicken Ann Arbor invites you to taste the difference that dedication to craft makes, promising a memorable meal that will undoubtedly have you planning your next return trip shortly after you leave.

Hands down the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.
We’re visiting from New York, where we’re used to great food, but this place exceeded all expectations. Every dish is prepared with real care and attention to detail.
I ordered the soy garlic wings—they were incredibly fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The skin had just the right level of crispiness: satisfyingly crunchy without being overdone.
And the fries? Absolutely to die for. The magic powder seasoning gives them so much flavor that they don’t even need dipping sauce.
Just perfection.

This was really good! I loved the fries, probably one of my favorite fried ive tried anywhere. The wings were good I got the sweet, and mild. I definitely want to try more sauces though. The corndog was good but I was expecting better! I definitely will give this place another chance! Thank you! More

Hands down one of the best fried chicken I’ve had. The skin is outrageously crispy, the meat inside juicy and tender, and the overwhelming aroma of garlic hits you right before that first, satisfying crunch. Each bite bursts with flavor and texture, striking a great balance between seasoning and technique.
The pickled radish and sauces on the side are perfect companions—refreshing, tangy, and thoughtfully paired.
If I had to nitpick, there’s a subtle oily note in the aftertaste that might not be for everyone, but that’s a matter of personal preference. I waited 17 minutes for the fresh batch to be cooked, and it was time well spent.

My recent visit to Noori Chicken in Ann Arbor left me craving for more! The chicken here is nothing short of fantastic. We started with boneless chicken, which was a delightful choice, but I’m eager to try the bone-in version next time. … More

The chicken blew my mind. It was seasoned perfectly and the sauce added a touch of sweetness. The fries was magic. They somehow made it sweet and a little spicy at the same time. Had a great experience here. Definitely will come here again(although it is a little pricy).

The building was clean. The employees were nice. It was easy to order. The food came out fast and it was really hot. The magic fries are a little bit sweet but still good. The chicken is nice and crunchy and the sauces have nice flavor. The takeout containers have perfect ventilation so the food doesn’t get soggy. They even packed napkins in a plastic glove for easy quick eating.

The wings are decent, however they give me completely COLD hot wings for my takeout, and I don’t know exactly why. The wings of the other flavour feel more freshly fried, yet the hot wings feel as if they’ve been sitting there for hours … More

Delicious. If you haven’t tried their new menu, I highly recommend you trying them!! My favorite was tteokbbokki. Reasonably priced for the portion and it was so tasty. Chicken wrap with gochujang sauce would be a good choice for a quick lunch! Everything came out quickly and the service was top notch! More

The food, for one, was so delicious! Freshly made and steaming hot when biting into each chicken wing. Secondly, the owner was so sweet and made us feel so welcome: I’ve been here twice in the last two days because it’s that good. Always looking forward to coming back :) More

I went there for the first time because I wanted to try someplace new. The food wasn't necessarily bad but for the price I paid the quantity was pitiful and I could get better quality elsewhere. The fries we're worse than what I could get at any fast food restaurant. I'm neither full nor satisfied. I'm going to get something else to eat. I wasn't even going to leave a review until I saw they had a sign in the restaurant that said they would give you a free drink if you left a five-star review. I thought that was kind of scummy. If you do a good job your reviews will reflect that. If you don't do a good job, you shouldn't try to bribe people into leaving a good review. You should try to improve the quality of your food and service.

I really enjoyed the food here, and honestly the best chicken wings I've ever had. Although, I saw the AI food poster and that definitely threw me off... if you know what I mean. The seats are also not that clean which was annoying since I had to clean them myself before sitting. More
